An image that came to me while reading Gormenghast. It was late at night, I was reading while Sue was dozing off, and suddenly this image came to me that I had to paint. By the time I woke Sue up so we could get ready for bed, the painting was mostly finished.
I find that almost without exception those paintings that just ‘pop into my head’ come out very good, whereas if I plan something out and make a conscious effort to TRY to paint something that doesn’t just ‘come to me’ it generally comes out very disappointing.
